Approach to Therapy
Dr. Kane practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is a solution focused form of therapy and an empirically supported treatment for anxiety disorders and other problems in living. In CBT the focus is on the behaviors and the cognitive processes which are serving to maintain or exacerbate current symptoms. Included in this is often a focus on improving the tolerance for experiencing difficult emotions and developing skills for managing these feelings more effectively. Dr. Kane integrates other forms of treatment into her practice including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Kane considers therapy to be a collaborative effort. A treatment plan is agreed upon with the client and adjustments to this plan will be made throughout the process. Therapy is about trying to improve the current level of functioning, whether the client finds themselves in crisis or simply sees some opportunities for improvement.
